'I am drawn to the sense of how you make your subject, whatever it might be at the time - seascape or black cat - a personal encounter. I think that's why your work has a lovely fluidity about it, because that's where the connection starts.'

    About

Ingrid Brown is a fine artist based in West Cornwall. She describes quiet, everyday scenes and the beauty of the outdoors in light, mood and atmosphere. Ingrid finds great joy being immersed in nature, making quick observational studies in paint and dry media. Observational sketching and painting enables her to fully appreciate and absorb her surroundings and the diverse beauty of the natural environment.

For the last 10 years, Ingrid's figurative works have explored the idea of comfort in solitude. Her subjects are usually portrayed contentedly alone in their own thoughts, highlighting the significance of moments of inner quietness. A feature of Ingrid's figurative works are their combination of subtle mood and strong composition, creating a quiet yet impactful impression.

Ingrid has written for The Artist magazine, and was recently invited to create a piece for the 'Perfectly Formed' art auction in May 2025, held by the Treatment Bag charity , alongside artists such as Robin and Nick, Luke Piper, Flora Roberts, and Nicholas Hely-Hutchinson.

Her work has been exhibited in notable shows including the Hampstead Art Society, The Gallery - Holt, Chelsea Art Society, ING Discerning Eye, several Federation of British Artists shows at the Mall Galleries, the Society of Graphic Fine Art, the St Ives Society of Artists, Penwith Gallery and St Ives Arts Club. She received a Distinction for her Matriculation Painting Exhibition in 2000, and has an academic background in History of Art (BA, 1st Class) and Architectural History & Theory (MA).

Artistic influences include Constable, Turner, Vuillard, Nicolai Fechin, Diebenkorn, Samuel Palmer, the Impressionists and Scottish Colourists. She has undertaken private and gallery commissions and her work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe, and the US.
